Iridescent Invertebrates

Iridescence (also known as goniochromism) is the phenomenon of certain surfaces that appear to gradually change colour as the angle of view or the angle of illumination changes.
Vivid metallic coloration has evolved in so many different species of animals in nature  for two main purposes: they can help animals find mates, or act as a warning to predators that a prey item may be poisonous.
In some animals, the striking iridescent colours also increase their chances of survival against predators by acting as a means of camouflage.
This set of scientific illustrations was done as a colour study, painted digitally in procreate.
